Asheville Event Aims to Raise Fitness Awareness and Funds for Paralyzed Athelete

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Five-time amateur bodybuilder, Shannon Chisholm, is getting ready to take on her sixth event and her first as a paraplegic.

When biking home on Hendersonville Road last summer, Shannon was struck by a car and left paralyzed.  Also a mother of two, she came home from the hospital having been told she would be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.  In a recent article Shannon told the Asheville Citizen-Times that she remembered little of the actual accident and mainly “[waking] up in the hospital two days later [and] I realized I couldn’t move my legs…I realized at that time what challenges I would face, not only physical, but emotional and psychological.”

Regardless, Shannon remains fearless in the face of challenge, with an attitude that continues only to look forward as she prepares to continue bodybuilding as a paraplegic.  This weekend alongside friends Shannon has organized the Chisholm Champion Challenge, a multi-day fitness event on January 27 and 28 at eight different fitness venues around Asheville.  “We decided to get the word out that no matter what challenges you face in life, that it’s important to live well and live a healthy life and take care of yourself and never give up,” Chisholm said.  The event aims to help Shannon with her high medical bills as a result of the accident, as well as to raise awareness about fitness and to help Asheville residents in their pursuit of health and wellness.

With the purchase of a $10 wristband adorned with the words “Never Give Up,” participants can partake in a variety of fitness events at well-known fitness venues (more…)

Yoga Bloom Pink Egg

Yoga Bloom Pink Egg - Supporting the Search for the Cure to Breast Cancer

Three Minute Egg has partnered with Cora Wen to create the Yoga Bloom THANK PINK Egg.  The Yoga Bloom Egg, now available in the Good Karma Eggs section of our Products page, is a Hot Pink Namastegg in honor of its devotion to breast cancer awareness.  One side features the Three Minute Egg logo as found on all of our Eggs, and the other side is adorned with the Yoga Bloom logo, which is beautifully crafted.  In accord with our commitment to Cora, 10% of the sales from these Eggs will be donated directly toward breast cancer awareness and education.

Many recent studies have pointed to yoga as a holistic supplement to breast cancer treatment, revealing many significant health benefits and an overall improved quality of life.  Complications such as fatigue and pain have been showed to be significantly lowered as a result of certain types of gentle yoga, including restorative and therapeutic.

Breast cancer awareness is an issue that is close to Cora’s heart, as everyone in her maternal lineage has had a battle with it, thus making her a very high risk candidate.  Having this in mind she embraces each day with full awareness of her body and active self-care.  Her work with yoga and women living with or recovering from breast cancer is extensive, by aiming to transform into “a positive experience for ourselves to live life fully, and live every moment fully and completely.”

Downward Facing Dog – Adho Mukha Svanasana (2-5 Eggs)

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011
“When you place your palms on the floor in Adho Mukha Svanasana you have to find where your energy is present and where it is absent, where the life force is active, or overactive, and where passive and inactive.” – B.K.S. Iyengar, Yoga Wisdom & Practice

Where To

Graydon Moffat: The Yummy Yoga Mummy of Toronto

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

As a child, we look to our mothers for guidance.   As a student, we follow our teachers as mentors.  Graydon Moffat is both.   Deemed the “Yummy Yoga Mummy of Toronto” by a local newspaper years ago, the name has stuck ever since.  And appropriately so.

Like many first-time mothers, Graydon suffered from sleep deprivation and anxiety during her son’s first few years.   It was then that Restorative Yoga really shined through, finally enabling her to relax enough to fall into a deep slumber once again.   “Holding deep poses for a long time felt good,” she says, “especially after periodic diaper changes and other unconventional times.” (more…)

I am a pediatric physical therapist and I have been using three minute eggs for several months to help the children learn about their bodies, support their posture, and be playful at the same time. The children love them. We continue to find wonderful ways to use them.

I love the 3 minute eggs, they have an endless amount of uses and I find them to be very valuable not only in my own home practice, I like to use them for arm balances, but for many of my students who are dealing with issues like arthritis, carpel tunnel and other aches and pains in general. I love the way they can move through a group practice without having to adjust and readjust the bricks. Have not used Silver Linings yet, but they sound great!

I teach yoga in Madrid, Spain, and I first learnt about the 3 minute egg through an ad in Yoga Journal magazine. I found the idea so clean, and so simple that it seemed almost brilliant to me. I have some students with problems in their wrists that are finally practicing arm balances, thanks to the eggs. Other students love them for opening up their tight backs, they feel great. Definitely, a yoga prop that’s worth a try. Hard to believe nobody thought of it until now! (more…)

Seniors and the Three Minute Egg®

Seniors doing yoga

The Three Minute Egg® is great for seniors!

I love the Three Minute Egg®!  You introduced them to me when I was in LA for the Yoga Therapy Symposium in 2009.

I love them for me because they are wonderful to open up my spine in bed or on a yoga mat.  I lay over them top of spine to bottom with the highest part of the egg at the thoracic spine and they help me fall off to sleep and also to wake up in the morning.  Sounds contradictory I know but it’s true.

If I’m feeling overwhelmed and emotional (more…)

Occupational Therapy and the Three Minute Egg®

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

I immediately fell in love with the Eggs when I received them last Wednesday.  Your Three Minute Eggs are well made and well designed. The shape, texture and weight of each Egg invites the body to trust its surface!

I am an Occupational Therapist in private practice in San Francisco.  I am a yoga student, but not a yoga teacher.  I work with young children, school age children, adolescents, and young adults.  My clients usually present with developmental, motor, attention and often learning disorders. The severity of their challenges range from mildly evident to very significant and in many cases they possess good to gifted intelligence. I have also followed several autistic students from preschool to young adulthood.

I use yoga as a “therapeutic modality” in my work together with other therapeutic tools as I address (more…)

RealAge.com honors Three Minute Egg® as Editor’s Pick

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Forgive me for gushing, but today I awoke to slew of new orders, and I just couldn’t figure out where they were coming from!  I finally glanced at my Google Analytics and found over 300 referrals from RealAge.com. Evidently they had written an article about the benefits of yoga for back pain, and named the Three Minute Egg® as Editor’s Choice for back pain yoga!  Evidently they have a large following because over 300 of their readers clicked on the link and I’ve been packing boxes all day.

Thank you, Real Age, for the Editor’s Choice selection.

Meanwhile, it’s no secret that (more…)

Yoga Deals Reviews Three Minute Egg®

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

I feel a combination of gratitude and astonishment when people review the Three Minute Egg® and have this many positive things to say.  I of course think it’s a great product, but I’m supposed to feel that way.  I invented it!  When other people take the time to share their thoughts and recommendations, all I can say is, “Thank you.”  So today I am saying a belated ‘Thank you’ to Yoga Deals for doing such a nice write-up on my product.  If you have anything you’d like to add, please do!  And please share this with your yoga community.  I really appreciate it!

design within stretch – three minute egg – product review

the three minute egg is the new block on the mat, but what’s with the name? according to the founder and ‘recovering’ furniture maker, jason (aka creative dude with a bad back), the name was hatched (i couldn’t resist) because of the “great benefits [that] can come from a practice where one holds challenging poses for up to 3 minutes & restorative poses for at least 3 or more.” jason also mentioned, that we should be on the lookout for… (more…)
