July Workshop, Conference, and Teacher Trainings Highlights from Team 3ME

Monday, June 11th, 2012

Summer is the perfect time to heat up your yoga practice with a plethora of workshops, teacher trainings, and events happening all around the country.  July is just around the corner, and here are our highlights from just a few of our favorite yoga teachers:

Aadil Palkhivala will be visiting the Yoga School of Therapeutics in Kansas City, MO, to host his workshop, Releasing Stress and Finding Joy–The Power of Purna Yoga following the 4th of July weekend from 7/6-7/8.  His weekend retreat will delve deeply into topics such as Anatomy of Standing Poses: Connect to your Core with the Joy of Movement, Healing Hips & Sacrum: Understanding Key Muscles and Joints of Hips & Back, and Purna Restorative & Pranayama Focus to Lower Blood Pressure & Stress.  For more information check out their website.

World-renowned Iyengar yoga teachers Joan White and Patricia Walden will join forces again 7/10-7/13 in their annual workshop the Joy of Teaching.  The workshop is offered for certified Iyengar yoga teachers preparing for Intermediate Junior I, II, III and Intermediate Senior I assessment.  As an exciting addition, this year’s session will also be open to a limited number of people coming up for their Intro II levels.  Joan and Patricia think of this as continuing education for all.  Contact Phyllis at info@yoganow.net to register.

Returning to the States from a yoga retreat in Costa Rica, Cora Wen will be back at Brentwood Yoga Center in Brentwood, California, offering another 5-day module which will count as 50 hours toward the 500 RYT Advanced Yoga Alliance Certification.  Cora’s Yoga Bloom Teacher Training program is specifically designed for those who desire a highly customizable training, both in content and time.   The second module of the year will focus on the topics of Creativity & Spontaneity; the module is open to all even if you did not attend the first.  More information about registration and payments can be found on their website.

Join Kia Miller at the Blue Spirit Retreat Center in Costa Rica for her month-long YogaWorks Certified Immersion Teacher Training.  This foundational program is recognized by Yoga Alliance and comprises three areas of study: The Theory and Practice of Yoga, Yoga Philosophy and The Art of Teaching.  Serious students of yoga and aspiring teachers can hone their skills and deepen their practice in an environment conducive to the spirit of immersion.

Wanderlust California 2012 is going to be awesome this year with Les Leventhal, Brock Cahill, and Krista Cahill rockin’ their flow.  All three will have recently returned from worldly yoga travels; Les from his tour in Australia, and the Cahill couple from their Caribbean yoga retreat.  Join Les for his Detox Vinyasa Flow and the Cahills for Karmasana and Tricky Transitions.  It’s sure to be an action-packed weekend in one of the most beautiful spots in the country.

Stay tuned for more events from your favorite yoga instructors!  And, as always, look for Eggs in action.

Life-Changing Experiences at the Midwest Yoga Conference

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

This evening marks the end of Day 3 at the Midwest Yoga Conference, and I’m exhausted yet totally ecstatic.  In fact, I’m high on the last three days of joy I’ve experienced here.  Jonny Kest, his family, and their studios put this conference together every year.  They bring so many great teachers together for a big slice of yoga pie.  It feels like coming home, and I’m just really very happy to see everyone.  This year I decided to spend less time in my booth and more time taking classes and getting to know the teachers.  That was such a good decision, I can’t even tell you.  It’s important while running a yoga business to remember how much I love yoga, and the thing that helps me remember is getting on the mat.

Today I took my first class in Acro-Yoga with a super-chill guy named Joe Barnett – I am already addicted… call it “Love at first flight.”  I am a pretty big guy, so while it’s fun for me to fly, I’m more suited as a base.  But this means I get to fly all sorts of amazing people and now that’s literally all I want to do.  Joe did an awesome job of getting us all — a room full of strangers — quickly comfortable with touching and being touched; trusting and being trusted.  Even though most of us had just met, we felt like old friends after just two hours in the room.

This morning I learned the 5 Tibetans from Chris Kilham, someone who really understands them.  This is something I want to do every day!  They are supposed to make you younger, and for a guy about to turn 60, Chris is terrifically agile, upbeat, and youthful.  These teachers are proof of how well yoga really works!

Day 2 was recovery for me.  I woke up so sore from my Day 1 intensive, I probably wouldn’t have taken any yoga at all except that Les was so cool and casual I decided I had to take his class – more Vinyasa Basics.  3 seconds into my first down dog I was already regretting my decision to take another class, but Les made room for my exhaustion by granting permission to the class in general to take Child’s Pose instead of Down Dog whenever it felt necessary.  I was in the front right hand corner of the class – visible to all.  I left that class holding the record for greatest number of Child’s Poses ever.

As someone who studies and loves Iyengar Yoga, I have to say it’s nice to (more…)

Three Minute Egg® at Midwest Yoga Conference 2012

Friday, May 11th, 2012

The excitement is building as Team 3ME prepares for another transcendent weekend at the Midwest Yoga Conference, May 17-20, just outside of the Windy City in Bloomingdale, IL.

Each year we look forward to returning to MYC as a particularly nurturing community in the Midwest.  It is a home-away-from-home for us, where all of the staff treats me like family.  There are people who come only to this show each spring, and they’ve been doing so for years.  One of the personal highlights for me is the yoga demonstration given annually by Jim Bennitt.  I have filmed him two years in a row and will make these videos available for viewing online after this year’s event.

What it is that makes this conference so special is a feeling that must be experienced rather than described.  As you visit their website, you encounter a sense of enlightened intimacy, even in its virtual presence.  On their theme of Beauty and Truth, Jonny Kest radiates an open invitation to “come join a radical detox movement that will celebrate a weekend of sweet yoga, live music and led dance flows,” inviting all walks of life to come together onto the mat for a shared experience.

The environment is humble and nurturing, giving students the opportunity to practice under the guidance of numerous well-respected teachers in the yoga community.

Many teachers also return year after year, including 3ME Family member Janet Stone. Her long-time teaching assistant, Jody Greene, shares that (more…)
