When I say, ‘Don’t try these at home.’ what I really mean is, please use caution when trying the poses described here, even though they’re not particularly advanced. If you have any questions or concerns, it’s always good to consult your yoga instructor and proceed slowly. If you don’t know whom to ask, contact us and we’ll connect with you someone knowledgeable.

Be sure to contract your abs in order to protect your back.
I’ve always believed that yoga is better for easing back pain than traditional therapies, but now there are an increasing number of studies that confirm it. Below are links to some articles that talk about yoga and back pain. I’ve also found some free yoga videos on treating back pain. The Three Minute Egg will be coming out with a video series on back pain in the next few months. Keep checking with us for updated ideas. In the meantime, Happy Reading!

Back pain can be debilitating. It can hurt whenever you move; it can cause sleep loss; and it can stop you from living your life as fully as you deserve. 2. Try gentle, restorative yoga. Learn to target muscles that are tight and painful with careful stretches.
3. Swim. It’s an excellent non-impact exercise that works all your muscles, but it’s particularly good for your back. (more…)
