Asheville Event Aims to Raise Fitness Awareness and Funds for Paralyzed Athelete

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Five-time amateur bodybuilder, Shannon Chisholm, is getting ready to take on her sixth event and her first as a paraplegic.

When biking home on Hendersonville Road last summer, Shannon was struck by a car and left paralyzed.  Also a mother of two, she came home from the hospital having been told she would be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.  In a recent article Shannon told the Asheville Citizen-Times that she remembered little of the actual accident and mainly “[waking] up in the hospital two days later [and] I realized I couldn’t move my legs…I realized at that time what challenges I would face, not only physical, but emotional and psychological.”

Regardless, Shannon remains fearless in the face of challenge, with an attitude that continues only to look forward as she prepares to continue bodybuilding as a paraplegic.  This weekend alongside friends Shannon has organized the Chisholm Champion Challenge, a multi-day fitness event on January 27 and 28 at eight different fitness venues around Asheville.  “We decided to get the word out that no matter what challenges you face in life, that it’s important to live well and live a healthy life and take care of yourself and never give up,” Chisholm said.  The event aims to help Shannon with her high medical bills as a result of the accident, as well as to raise awareness about fitness and to help Asheville residents in their pursuit of health and wellness.

With the purchase of a $10 wristband adorned with the words “Never Give Up,” participants can partake in a variety of fitness events at well-known fitness venues (more…)

Cora Wen and Three Minute Egg® Debuts Yoga Bloom THANK PINK Pink Eggs

Yoga Bloom Pink Egg

Yoga Bloom Pink Egg - Supporting the Search for the Cure to Breast Cancer

Three Minute Egg has partnered with Cora Wen to create the Yoga Bloom THANK PINK Egg.  The Yoga Bloom Egg, now available in the Good Karma Eggs section of our Products page, is a Hot Pink Namastegg in honor of its devotion to breast cancer awareness.  One side features the Three Minute Egg logo as found on all of our Eggs, and the other side is adorned with the Yoga Bloom logo, which is beautifully crafted.  In accord with our commitment to Cora, 10% of the sales from these Eggs will be donated directly toward breast cancer awareness and education.

Many recent studies have pointed to yoga as a holistic supplement to breast cancer treatment, revealing many significant health benefits and an overall improved quality of life.  Complications such as fatigue and pain have been showed to be significantly lowered as a result of certain types of gentle yoga, including restorative and therapeutic.

Breast cancer awareness is an issue that is close to Cora’s heart, as everyone in her maternal lineage has had a battle with it, thus making her a very high risk candidate.  Having this in mind she embraces each day with full awareness of her body and active self-care.  Her work with yoga and women living with or recovering from breast cancer is extensive, by aiming to transform into “a positive experience for ourselves to live life fully, and live every moment fully and completely.”

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Yoga Mandala

The Three Minute Egg is excited to announce our return to exhibit at the MIDWEST YOGA CONFERENCE outside CHICAGO from JUNE 3rd –JUNE 6th.  Last year we were fortunate enough to connect with master instructors Annie Carpenter and Dr. Cornell Colbert, who fell in love with the Eggs and used them in their RESTORATIVE and THERAPEUTIC yoga classes respectively.  This year both teachers will be back and they are planning their classes around the ways they’ve found most beneficial to use of the Three Minute Egg®.  Additionally (and I am extremely excited about this) Dr. Bahia Ohlsen will be giving a lecture on using the Three Minute Egg® in her Yoga for Fertility presentation on Sunday afternoon.  Dr. Ohlsen has inspired the next generation/variation on our product, the FERTILITY EGG.  These small Eggs will be very useful in all forms of yoga, Pilates, physical therapy, and back-care.  More on that as it develops!

Mia Park, a local Chicago yoga instructor, will be assisting in the booth again this year so come visit!

Please come to the show and enjoy a fantastic weekend of yoga, kirtan, and healthy living.  See you there!

Toronto Yoga Conference Logo

Toronto: March 26-28

This weekend I’ll be exhibiting the Three Minute Egg at the Toronto Yoga and Pilates show. Last week I sold out of Eggs in Winnipeg at the Live This Life Expo (which I never had time to blog about). I’m pretty excited to see what happens this weekend! If you or anyone you know lives in or near Toronto, please tell them to come out and say “hello.” They might even want to buy some Eggs!

I’d like to especially thank my friend Graydon, who has been kind enough to host me while I’m here in Toronto. She and her friend, Megan (Pilates Instructor) will be helping me run my booth while I introduce my Eggs to Toronto.

See y’all there!

Three Minute Egg supports Partners in Health — Haiti

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

During my last appearance at a Yoga Journal conference recently held in San Francisco, I decided to donate $5 (to PARTNERS IN HEALTH in support of their relief efforts in Haiti) for each person who purchased one of my Three Minute Egg Starter Kits.  Lots of people bought Eggs, but unfortunately only a few bought starter kits.  Nevertheless, It feels good to do something, however small.  I have mixed feelings about this kind of giving, as I’m never sure how much of it actually gets to the people who need the help.  In the spirit of hope I make my donation — hoping that every bit counts, however small.

How did we get here?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I invented the Three Minute Egg 4 years ago, almost to the day! It has been an amazing ride so far, and as you now know, I didn’t get here alone.

When I first made the Three Minute Egg, it was out of wood — because wood was what i knew. It didn’t take long to realize foam was a better solution. It is lighter, more forgiving, and gentler on the body. It’s probably a good thing I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I created the Egg. I might never have done it!

I am continually humbled and encouraged by people’s response to this product. People who use the Three Minute Egg don’t just like it, they LOVE IT! I can’t believe the emails, phone calls, and testimonials people write — sometimes without even being asked! I am infinitely grateful to everyone who makes the Eggs a part of their practice, and doubly so for sharing their experiences with me.

What’s your story?

So Many People to Thank…

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Even though I somehow sort of run this business by myself, the reality is I have and have had, a lot of help from a lot of people. I’d like to introduce you to them by conveying my gratitude. The list is long. I hope not to forget anybody!

Thanks first of all, to Clark, Anthony, and Sparkdog for designing the new site and keeping me on track. Neither of which were easy to do! My deepest gratitude to Carrie for helping me give you the most accurate information I can about yoga and the Three Minute Egg; for traversing the country to help me at trade-shows; and modeling the poses so we can all so how it’s supposed to be done! Some images are viewable now, and many more are to come. A special shout-out goes to Megan, Daniel, Nicole, and Kelly, who came in early to get things off the ground with the first round of videos. (You’ll be seeing/hearing more from Megan — she’s been a huge help since the beginning! — as soon as we delve into Pilates with the Three Minute Egg. Megan’s been known to rock a conference every now and then. I’m sure you’ll get to meet her at some point.) Mia for representing the midwest and NYC conferences. Yoni, Alison, and Azul for taking the first photos of the Three Minute Egg in action. Robert for giving me my first web presence ever. Wendy for introducing me to Jim, who introduced me to York, who gets my Eggs made. I can’t imagine this endeavor without York. He is gracious, honest, and hard-working. Not easy qualities to find anywhere, let alone overseas. Aaron, Shane, Chris, and Dustin for putting in long hours behind the camera. Bruce for his incredible music and generous nature. Kurt for giving me my first job in film, and opening doors i never knew existed. I shutter to think what my life in Asheville would be like without Kurt. He was the first local to invite me into his world and encourage me to make it my own. Jon for round two of product images. Steve, Tom, and Bob for their continued guidance and tireless business coaching. Pam and Betty for leading me down the yellow brick road. Mark, Deborah, and Advantage West for enabling me to take this to the next level. Holly for handling west coast operations. ToeSox for giving me the space to expand. Veronika for stepping in early to help nurture wandering souls at MBSExpos. Josh for providing his soothing voice. Tanja for cooking up the ingredients for the logo. And Nancy for coming up with the name!

I’d like to thank Diane for being the first blogger to write about the Eggs, Mimm for posting online reviews every chance she gets, and Jane for introducing the Eggs to the VideoFitness community. Patricia for writing in-depth commentaries on the DVDs and everyone who posts comments and reviews on Amazon. You’re all amazing. I am truly appreciative.

I would like to dedicate this site to my daughter, Sula, who never stops loving me no matter how long I’m away. Humbled as I am to have invented something the world is wanting, there is no greater creation than a happy little girl. I love you, Sula. More than I can possibly express in words.

Sula wouldn’t be here if not for her mother, my girlfriend/co-parent/partner, Georgia, who never ceases to amaze me with her support, her patience, and her understanding. It’s not easy being the only grown-up in the house. I don’t know how she does it!

If you’re reading this now, welcome to the family. The Three Minute Egg wouldn’t be here without all of these people, and none of us would be here if it weren’t for you. We invite you to join us and make us a part of your lives. Send us your comments, your ideas, your photos, your stories. I want this to be a community. A place where people come together to share their love for their health, and their love for each other, and their love for the Egg.

I never knew one Egg could create so many possibilities.

How will you use it?
