Three Minute Egg® Now Available at Roots Canada Store Locations

Monday, May 28th, 2012

From the 3ME Canada blog:

Three Minute Egg® recently hit the shelves at Roots, Canada’s iconic clothing and lifestyle retail store.

Founded in 1973 by Don Green and Michael Budman, Roots began with a tiny retail location at 1052 Yonge Street in Toronto.  Since then the company has grown into a leading lifestyle brand known around the world for its quality active athletic wear, yoga apparel, accessories, and more.

Today, Roots has over 120 stores throughout North America, as well as an eco-friendly Yoga Studio in Toronto.  While the brand has become a household name, what many don’t realize is that Yoga has been a part of the Roots lifestyle for many years, even before yoga launched into the mainstream.

Roots co-founder Don Green and his wife Denyse Green have shared a passion for yoga since (more…)

KYOGAH Among First Canadian Studios to Utilize and Retail the Three Minute Egg®

Monday, May 28th, 2012

Our Canadian family continues to grow with the addition of KYOGAH, a yoga studio with a mission to foster a community for students, teachers, and practitioners.

Located in Kelowna, BC, the studio “braids the three elements of Yoga, Healing & Welcome,” with a room dedicated to each strand.  We’re so happy that KYOGAH has adopted the Egg into their unique approach to health and wellness.

In a recent review posted to their blog, KYOGAH raises issues we have commonly heard from others, as well, in using the traditional rectangular yoga blocks.  There are three uses that they highlight in their comparison of the Egg vs. the rectangle.

1. Supported Supine Heart Opener—This is presented as the KYOGAH favorite of all yoga poses when incorporating the Egg.  Without the corners of the rectangular block, the Egg allows for maximum comfort when placed between the shoulder blades and lying over it.  They write that they are “loving this pose now because the Three Minute Egg supports the contours of your body.”

2. Mountain Pose—Often times students are taught to place a yoga block between their thighs to maximize engagement and sense the rotation of your femurs.  In their practice, however, KYOGAH found that they prefer the Egg because it “is lightweight and easier to hold, and the shape of the Egg allows it to fit perfectly between the legs.”  Add an additional Egg between the hands to engage the shoulders and maintain balance.

3. Supported Triangle/Side Angle/Ardha Chandrasana—It’s common to utilize a block to maintain an open chest rotation and an extended reach to the ground.  With the Egg, however, KYOGAH writes that “its slight instability actually stops you from leaning too heavily on it.”  They also point out that the lightness creates ease in holding onto it as you move into the pose, “rather than having to locate and adjust a heavy block afterward.”  Altogether, the use of the Egg in this pose allows you to achieve “the height you need without losing the integrity of your core.”

We look forward to hearing more positive uses of the Eggs at the Kelowna yoga studio, and many thanks for the awesome review!

You can find them at 115 Guisachan Village, 2365 Gordon Drive, Suite #115.  Stop by or give them a call at (778) 484-5511.

Beet, Apple, and Mint Juice

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

Summer is heating up quickly here in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina!

One of our favorite ways to beat the heat is with a freshly made glass of juice.

I prefer this one in the afternoon when the sun is hottest and I could go for something sweet and refreshing.

If your body isn’t used to eating beets on the reg, you may want to stick to just a small glass of this one at first.  Let your system build a tolerance to it.

- 1 small beet, scrubbed and chopped

- 1 green apple, cored and chopped

- 5 carrots (a note: this will determine how sweet your juice will be, and I found that with this amount it was just slightly sweet)

- A handful of mint

- Small slice of lemon

Juice it all together and that’s that!  The beets are packed with antioxidants, so in my mind this really is just the right snack after a hot afternoon in the garden, pre- or post-workout, or just because you feel like it.

Enjoy!

Life-Changing Experiences at the Midwest Yoga Conference

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

This evening marks the end of Day 3 at the Midwest Yoga Conference, and I’m exhausted yet totally ecstatic.  In fact, I’m high on the last three days of joy I’ve experienced here.  Jonny Kest, his family, and their studios put this conference together every year.  They bring so many great teachers together for a big slice of yoga pie.  It feels like coming home, and I’m just really very happy to see everyone.  This year I decided to spend less time in my booth and more time taking classes and getting to know the teachers.  That was such a good decision, I can’t even tell you.  It’s important while running a yoga business to remember how much I love yoga, and the thing that helps me remember is getting on the mat.

Today I took my first class in Acro-Yoga with a super-chill guy named Joe Barnett – I am already addicted… call it “Love at first flight.”  I am a pretty big guy, so while it’s fun for me to fly, I’m more suited as a base.  But this means I get to fly all sorts of amazing people and now that’s literally all I want to do.  Joe did an awesome job of getting us all — a room full of strangers — quickly comfortable with touching and being touched; trusting and being trusted.  Even though most of us had just met, we felt like old friends after just two hours in the room.

This morning I learned the 5 Tibetans from Chris Kilham, someone who really understands them.  This is something I want to do every day!  They are supposed to make you younger, and for a guy about to turn 60, Chris is terrifically agile, upbeat, and youthful.  These teachers are proof of how well yoga really works!

Day 2 was recovery for me.  I woke up so sore from my Day 1 intensive, I probably wouldn’t have taken any yoga at all except that Les was so cool and casual I decided I had to take his class – more Vinyasa Basics.  3 seconds into my first down dog I was already regretting my decision to take another class, but Les made room for my exhaustion by granting permission to the class in general to take Child’s Pose instead of Down Dog whenever it felt necessary.  I was in the front right hand corner of the class – visible to all.  I left that class holding the record for greatest number of Child’s Poses ever.

As someone who studies and loves Iyengar Yoga, I have to say it’s nice to (more…)

Janet Stone Releases Radiant Mom Yoga DVD

Friday, May 11th, 2012

“Reconnect[ing] to motherhood as a wild, divine celebration,” Janet Stone has put together a variety of powerful sequences in a DVD that celebrates post-natal yoga in an unprecedented manner.

Entitled Radiant Mom Yoga the DVD is an encapsulation of her Radiant Mom workshops devoted to helping women traverse the various stages of motherhood.  With two daughters of her own, Janet has transcended the exhilarating demands of parenting into a form of yoga with a mission to help foster a strong connection to the mother’s center.

Janet opens the DVD telling us that beyond her pilgrimage to India in 1996 which first brought her to yoga, she has found her deepest learning from her daughters, the inspiration for this manifestation of post-natal yoga.  With all of the nourishment the mother must give to their children, she reminds us that it’s essential to “carve out a moment for yourself” and nourish your own mind, body, and soul.  When you first nourish yourself, you can better nourish others.

Students may choose from two sequences (more…)

Three Minute Egg® at Midwest Yoga Conference 2012

Friday, May 11th, 2012

The excitement is building as Team 3ME prepares for another transcendent weekend at the Midwest Yoga Conference, May 17-20, just outside of the Windy City in Bloomingdale, IL.

Each year we look forward to returning to MYC as a particularly nurturing community in the Midwest.  It is a home-away-from-home for us, where all of the staff treats me like family.  There are people who come only to this show each spring, and they’ve been doing so for years.  One of the personal highlights for me is the yoga demonstration given annually by Jim Bennitt.  I have filmed him two years in a row and will make these videos available for viewing online after this year’s event.

What it is that makes this conference so special is a feeling that must be experienced rather than described.  As you visit their website, you encounter a sense of enlightened intimacy, even in its virtual presence.  On their theme of Beauty and Truth, Jonny Kest radiates an open invitation to “come join a radical detox movement that will celebrate a weekend of sweet yoga, live music and led dance flows,” inviting all walks of life to come together onto the mat for a shared experience.

The environment is humble and nurturing, giving students the opportunity to practice under the guidance of numerous well-respected teachers in the yoga community.

Many teachers also return year after year, including 3ME Family member Janet Stone. Her long-time teaching assistant, Jody Greene, shares that (more…)
