Yoga with Janet Stone iPhone App Debuts at #2 in iTunes

Monday, April 30th, 2012

After only a single day’s passing Janet Stone’s iPhone app, Yoga with Janet Stone, debuted at #2 in the iTunes store.  The app can be found in the Health & Beauty category, as well as currently in the New & Noteworthy category due to its overnight success.  Having partnered with company lolofit, the app guides you through Janet’s “vigorous-yet-sumptuous approach to Vinyasa” in a “dynamic form of yoga flows from one posture to the next in rhythm with your breath.”

As an advocate of the Eggs, Janet has incorporated our ergonomic yoga blocks into several of her sequences in the app.  Through Radiant Mom Yoga Janet has adopted the Eggs as an integral prop in her practice and teaching.

With over 100 flows arranged into 6 practices that change daily or 4 that progress in difficulty, yogis will find many options from beginner to advanced levels.  The app includes over 5 hours of Janet’s audio instruction along with over 3 and a half hours of video tutorials.  If you choose to design your own sequence, users may do so with the included Practice Builder.

Of the many perks of the app one that is most notable is the option to track your practice, as well as share with your friends.  With several hours of yoga music, meditation sessions, and the Eggs by your side, you’re in for quite the complete at-home yoga practice.  If you can’t keep up with Janet on the road, then this is the perfect alternative!

Life After Tadasana

Monday, April 30th, 2012

The Tadasana International Yoga & Music Festival in Santa Monica was like a mini yoga-explosion.  People came out of the woodwork, and some traveled from as far as South Africa to be at the event.  3ME had its booth in the VIP shopping district where we could calmly meet with the most sincere and interested yogis.  I was able to connect with some old friends, provide Eggs for multiple classes, including Seane Corn’s Off the Mat, Into the Worldspecial event, and meet lots of new teachers who have been wanting to get their hands on some Eggs.  We were also thrilled to have Kia Miller, Lisa Walford, Kathryn Budig and Marla Apt to incorporate the Eggs into their workshops at Tadasana.  It was awesome to feel and see the Egg family growing right before our eyes!

This was the first year of this mammoth event, and despite the unseasonably cold weather at the beach (it was 92 degrees in “the Valley”), the local hardcore yoga community was present in full force.  We look forward to keeping in touch with the amazing people we met, and watching the Eggs spread their love through my old hometown.

A special shout-out to my crew, Molly, Masha, and Kiki as well as the ever-supportive Melissa Kann, who was kind enough to loan me her Land Cruiser so I could shuttle my massive supply of Eggs to the show.  Who says you can never go home again?  I had an amazing time!

Join 3ME Canada in Support of Yoga Outreach & their Fundraising Retreat

Monday, April 30th, 2012

“True evolution in yoga occurs naturally and rather subtly. It is more an art of living and, above all, an art of feeling.”  ~SriVenu

Join Yoga Outreach for their 14th annual retreat from May 25 – 27th, and support access to yoga for all. Yoga Outreach is a Vancouver based registered charity, working with yoga instructors, community organizations, social service agencies, and correctional facilities to support mindfulness-based yoga programming for those with limited access. Beginning in 1996 with a group of Canadian yoga teachers working together to bring yoga into British Columbia’s correctional system, they have since expanded their focus, promoting healing and transformation by bringing yoga to many other populations who would not have access otherwise. Volunteers now teach over 30 classes per week in settings ranging from health care to transition houses, shelters to treatment and recovery centers.

Sponsored by Telus and Halfmoon Yoga Products, the rEvolution Retreat features classes with 14 talented and inspiring teachers from around BC, including our friends Danielle Hoogenboom, Sri Venu, and Leila Stuart. Join this transformational experience and help to raise funding and awareness to unite communities and support those in need.

The weekend long retreat takes place in the peaceful wooded setting surrounding the Cheakamus River, only 45 minutes from Horeshoe Bay, but light-years from the city. In addition to diverse classes, evening events, gourmet meals, and cozy cabin accommodations, there will be a Raffle and Silent Auction to conclude the event. Along with donations from Chopra YogaYYoga, and Prana Yoga - to name a few - Three Minute Egg@ Canada has donated a Namast-Egg Starter Kit to be auctioned off to the highest bidder in support of this admirable cause. All proceeds go to Yoga Outreach, helping to share the life affirming gift of yoga with adults and youth facing challenges in their lives.

Here’s what some past participants have to say about the retreat!

Maitri Iyengar Yoga Conference: Interview with Susan Marcus, President of IYASE

Monday, April 30th, 2012

As one of the main sponsors of the upcoming Iyengar “Maitri” conference in DC, I wanted to really convey the meaning behind Maitri.  To this end I asked Ashley to come up with some questions for our connections there.  Susan Marcus and Phyllis Rolins, as well as Maitri Conference Steering Committee Members and Certified Iyengar Teachers, gave us such unbelievable answers, we decided to pass them onto you unfiltered:

1.     How do you incorporate maitri into your daily life and yogic practice?

Maitri is one of the virtues that the Yoga Sutras identifies to “cultivate” as a method for quieting fluctuations and minimizing the afflictions of daily life.

In daily life it is sometimes easy to be happy, joyful and compassionate, and sometimes difficult.  This is such an obvious statement that it almost doesn’t warrant mentioning, except that it can offer us an insight into minimizing the difficult times by maximizing our experience of “ease.”  When we are nurtured by our practice we can more often find the ease needed to remain tranquil during the inevitable times of stress.  As distractions and obstacles beset us, if we can find the silence within during practice on the mat, we can use this as an opportunity to expand our feelings of friendliness and compassion for others.  When the perceived errors of others burden our sensibility, if we can recognize our ultimate oneness, then compassion can replace our judgment and irritation.

2.     How do you view the relationship between Maitri and the teachings of the Iyengars?

Iyengar yoga is an explication of the traditional form of yoga as a spiritual path, as written in the Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, etc.  The gift of BKS Iyengar has been his efforts to make this spiritual path accessible to the ordinary person.  His directions for performing asana and pranayama, and his invention of the use of props, allow all to benefit.  Light on Life engagingly translates the complexities and challenges of a life of practice. The rigorous training of Iyengar yoga teachers ensures depth of understanding and knowledge in the transmission of the teaching…this could be seen as a beautiful demonstration of Maitri – friendliness towards those who are on this path of practice.

3.  In your opinion, what values differentiate this yoga conference community from the rest?

The Maitri Yoga Conference takes the theme of Friendliness and weaves it into the texture of the entire conference.  From classes to panel discussions, participants will have the opportunity to learn methods to incorporate this virtue into their practice on the mat, and into their lives.  Sharing this quality of friendliness and compassion among our friends and acquaintances can create a dynamic for change within our own consciousness and throughout the larger yoga community.

This conference comes at a time when the larger yoga and spiritual community is polarized.  While yoga has reached international popularity and medical science and therapy have embraced it’s physical and mental benefits, it is simultaneously being (more…)

Three Minute Egg® Teams up with JadeYoga at Canada’s 6th Annual Green Living Show

Sunday, April 29th, 2012

img_5254-2From the 3ME Canada Blog:

Toronto’s sixth annual Green Living Show kicked off last Friday at Exhibition Place and continued throughout the weekend.  Three Minute Egg® Canada made its first appearance this year, teaming up with JadeYoga to exhibit in the shows latest addition – the Sweat Equity Yoga Pavilion.  Sponsored by Sweat Equity Magazine – the only Canadian publication dedicated to yoga, fitness, and lifestyle – the pavilion featured demos, mini-workshops, and yoga classes from top teachers in the GTA.

I was fortunate enough to reconnect with fellow dancer Eva Redpath, creator of Body Conditioning by Dancers and had a serious workout during her challenging and inspirational demonstrations.  During the show, Eva and Robyn Baldwin (fitness model and competitor) filmed their Mid Month Motivation video direct from our booth at the Green Living Show!  April’s motivational demonstration features a fantastic hip-opening exercise utilizing the Harmony mat by JadeYoga.  Eva left the show with a beautiful Teal Green Namast-Egg Starter kit in toe, so keep your eyes open for her upcoming mid-month features!

Toronto editor for Flare Magazine and fitness writer for The Globe and Mail, Maureen Halushak, also stopped by to pick up a set of Eggs. Maureen will be publishing a piece on the Three Minute Egg slated to appear in the Globe’s Life section in next Monday’s newspaper (April 30th, 2012). In preparation for the article, I set Maureen up with Toronto based yoga instructor Duncan Parviainen, who enjoys working with the Eggs due to (more…)

Marianne Wells Partners with Three Minute Egg® for Good Karma Egg

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Marianne Wells, a beloved 3ME Ambassador and world-renown yoga teacher trainer, fell in love with the Eggs in Estes Park, CO at a Yoga Journal Conference in 2010.  Since then she has been incorporating them into her teacher trainings in Costa Rica and finally decided she needed to have Eggs of her own.

I’ll admit I had very few expectations when I gifted Marianne a set of Eggs at our first meeting.  One of my booth assistants was a huge fan, and a bit star-struck to be showing her the amount of increased comfort she could experience with these Eggs.  Lots of people make promises to do this or promote that, but seldom does anything come of it.  Marianne, however, is a woman who stands by her promises and commitments, so I was thrilled when she called me and asked if we could co-create a Good Karma Egg.

As a yoga teacher and teacher trainer, Marianne prides herself on making sure people graduate with a deep understanding of how to teach yoga, a clear sense of proper alignment, and a broad knowledge of the correct use of props.  She also believes strongly in making her courses financially accessible to people.  She teaches a number of community classes in her hometown, and has never raised the price of her 200 HR intensive trainings at the Goddess Garden in Costa Rica.

3ME feels very honored to have the opportunity to partner with so many great teachers and when we do an Egg like this, we ask our partner to choose an organization with whom we can share the proceeds.  Marianne has chosen Jimmy’s Way, a non-profit she is setting up in honor of, and to help people like, her son, Jimmy, who took his own life in 2011, shortly before Thanksgiving.

In talking with Marianne through this process, we’ve become friends, and she has confided in me certain personal elements ofher son’s passing.  Most of all she has talked about two things:  Her firm belief that her son was not long for this world; and that living her yoga is what’s carrying her through this difficult time.  In allowing me to share her story with you, she has made only one real request, and that is for my portrayal not to arouse pity or additional sorrow.  I’m not sure I know how to do that.   I have a four-year-old daughter, and the thought of losing her is beyond any level of sadness I can fathom. I don’t even try.  I am deeply appreciative that Marianne has chosen 3ME to partner with in this endeavor and I hope that through our combined efforts, Jimmy’s Way can be there for people like Jimmy, who might find it in themselves to stay longer, and make the lives around them brighter.  When he was alive, this is what Jimmy did.

Alignyo Gives Three Minute Egg® Mad Props

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

While yoga is not an activity that necessarily requires gear to participate, Alignyo points out that there are props that help to support and enhance your practice.  Of the three props that they mention, the thriving online yoga community begins their article by exploring the Three Minute Egg®.

Alignyo found that the ergonomic design of the Eggs is “more aligned with the shape of your body, making the egg an ideal fit for between your legs (think mountain pose or backbends).”  They note the availability of different Egg densities: Hard-Boiled for support in weight arm balances, and the softer Namastegg, ideal for supporting your head and spine.  The latter is their preference, finding that “these cushiony eggs are a great comfort in restorative poses like supported fish.”

Ultimately, they concluded that “your standard block will still do the trick, but if you are a fan of restorative yoga, we recommend trying the Namastegg as a comfy addition to your reclining postures.”

The blog went on to recognize (more…)

Thoughts and Photos of The Yoga Conference & Show: Toronto 2012

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

We had a blast again this year at The Yoga Conference & Show: Toronto closing out the end of March 2012.  Jason taught an awesome Egg demonstrative workshop in The Yoga Garden, our booth neighbored our good friends at JadeYoga, and we met many new teachers and students.

This time around, 3ME Canada was in full force with Trillium Connection now exclusively running our Canadian distribution and imports. We were able to catch up with Trillium owner Samara Zoetmulder following the conference to (more…)
